How to Set Up ProtonVPN for Torrenting

1

Open ProtonVPN and go to Settings > Kill Switch. Enable both the kill switch and permanent kill switch if desired.

2

Under Settings > Protocol, select WireGuard for the best speeds.

3

Connect to a P2P-labeled server (shown with a P2P icon in the server list).

4

To enable port forwarding, go to Settings > Features > Port Forwarding and toggle it on. Note the assigned port.

5

In qBittorrent, go to Settings > Connection and enter the port number from ProtonVPN. Then go to Advanced > Network Interface and select the ProtonVPN adapter.

6

Verify at ipleak.net that your ProtonVPN IP is shown.

See full setup guide for more client configurations.

Final Verdict

ProtonVPN is the top choice if you need port forwarding for better seeding ratios. Swiss jurisdiction and open-source apps provide excellent privacy credentials. Secure Core adds a genuine extra layer of protection. The main trade-offs are slightly slower speeds than NordVPN and the restriction of P2P to dedicated servers rather than the full network.
